SWFAddress and Google: Getting Indexed Is Not so Easy...

Well when I started my tutorial on using SWFAddress with the Flex Datagrid, I was quite optimistic that my newly created links and their static page versions would get indexed by Google. In fact, when I run a “fetch as Googlebot” test on the Webmaster Tools Sitemaps on Google’s site, it seems to look ok (sample below).

This is only after tweaking the original SEO sample from Asual to make each title unique, adding the H1 tag with a variation of the title to each page, adding unique descriptions based on each of my 11 activity types, and outputting the XML specific to each entry in the datagrid, in order to make sure that each page has truly unique content – the closest approximation I can do to the actual Flex app. I did this extra work after noticing that the pages based on my port of the original SEO sample were nearly all the same: the titles had little variation, and the content was nearly blank with nothing other than a page title at the top. Google hates pages like that, so I knew I had to do something.

But my great new pages are still not showing up in the index, despite the fact that they are linked from the homepages of my other sites, which are well ranked and don’t have any trouble with new content appearing in the index. In fact, my SWFAddress/Flex tutorial showed up in Google the day after I wrote it – so after several days I know that something is clearly wrong with these SWFAddress pages. I don’t think it could be that I changed the # to main.html# – because that information doesn’t even show up to the googlebot crawler. Nope there must be something in this page below that the bot just doesn’t like. So before I finish my tutorial with the part about the SEO stuff I’ve done, I want to figure out what the problem is here, and fix it.
