The Success of the ‘Not Even 1 Dish’ Policy

I hate dishes.  Really, really hate them. My husband likewise hates dishes. But with a family of 4, three who are old enough to need cooking for at least twice a day, sometimes more, the dishes pile up whether you like it or not. And lately they’ve been a bit out of control, so my husband decided to institute a new rule: no dishes in the sink, ever. Not even one.

That sounds a bit drastic – and at fist it certainly felt drastic. But you know what? Our kitchen is now clean, almost always!warning

Es un milagro verdadero.

I guess the “no dishes in the sink” policy does 2 things – it saves us the time and effort of re-rinsing dishes that have been quickly rinsed and put into the sink, and disperses the work load of doing the dishes into much smaller increments. If you clean every dish as soon as it comes back into the kitchen, you’re effectively doing dishes all of the time, but in very small loads.  Somehow this has turned our dish nightmare into something much more manageable, so I thought I would share it here on the blog :)
