After struggling with Powerpoint and Captivate for a while, I got my slideshow finished :)  It’s just 1 of a slew of things I’m trying to get ready, including a universal login so that people can do a free week trial from Facebook, AOL, Google, Yahoo, etc, and then of course I have to get way more of my actual content into the system – which is really just a several week preview of what’s to come at this point.  But progress feels good! Our Teacher Parent Admin is coming this week as well, it’s almost finished, and already up on our developmental server in testing mode.

On a personal front I’ve been overwhelmed with sadness about the events in Haiti. While living in the Dominican Republic in 1990, I got to know the young Haitian boy Felix who worked in my host family’s house very well, and I’ve thought about him a lot over the years. I went to the border of Haiti but didn’t actually visit there, as I didn’t think it was the safest place for a young girl to travel – but my experiences on the island of Hispaniola make this tragedy hit closer to home for me. In particular I find myself wondering about all of the Haitian orphans…where will they go? I know there are orphans everywhere and I should be equally concerned about them, but I guess it’s easy to forgot about all of the needy kids when it’s not at the center of the news. I guess I like many will try to keep a close eye on developments coming out of Haiti in years to come, and see if perhaps there is an opportunity to help a child in need at some time. As a woman with 2 toddlers I’d be crazy to think of adopting a child any time soon, but maybe God will bring our lives along in a direction we’ve never imagined, and I find myself hoping a bit that perhaps we’re in a position to at least host a child here in Alaska that would otherwise not have a home with a family.
